What’s Next? Back in NYC

by Jennifer

I haven’t had a lot to photograph, blog, or IG since I’ve returned to NYC.

NYC. One of the most fascinating cities in the world with such variety of people and things to do, and yet nothing in particular to share.

It’s the opposite of a funk. It is not a disenchantment with NYC. It’s a period of action.

I’ve been busy getting in touch with:

  • My students – old and new.
  • My friends – old and rediscovered.
  • My career – old and innovating.

Hawaii, and my time in Cali, living with friends and family, helped me re-prioritize and decide how I wanted to live my life.

Thank you for the reset Hawaii

I used to sit and calculate in my head how much my various ventures were bringing in each week. If it was under a certain number, I became stressed and continued with work I did not care for. It dragged on my day and made me a less robust, happy person that could affect others in a healthy way.

Money is no longer a guiding principle.

The money grab.

I live simply.

  • No rent.
  • Budget of $100/week.
  • Make that much – a little slush fund for leisure expenses – and I am good.

I’ll still work and use my time in a way that I feel will benefit the world, but now I’ll operate without a false rubric with which to judge my life.

Other Updates

Petsitting

Nearly two months of petsits are laid out. I’m eager to be reunited with more of my loves this month.

Thunder! Juno! Ghost! What names for the little rascals that make up our wild bunch.

Tutoring

Most of my tutoring clients were in touch to pick up tutoring with me before I even arrived home. I’m so terribly grateful for their love and their loyalty. I love my kids!

Bnb

We have two kickass work exchange guests managing the Jersey City Bnb, and Sandy and friends have been busy preparing the backyard and garden as a beautiful spring and summer getaway from the city for our guests.

My husband is a machine! Between him and his friend, Araby, within a weekend's time they set up the framework for our new backyard deck and pathways

There he is. The man and his handiwork. Large holes dug by Sandy in our backyard.

A New House! (kind of)

We have plans to (finally!) move into a home, our house in Journal Square, Jersey City! Finally we will have a home to rest our heads, and our belongings, between petsits.

That’s our house in the middle!

We are going to make some small cosmetic renovations ourselves while living there in between petsits… Because we’re not giving up one of our great love of spending time with everyone’s animals!

He was almost ours.
Spurred by an initial discussion of adopting @littledumdums ‘s Persian, Thomas, who up till recently had no forever home, we were determined to make a space for this little love.

Thomas is the little guy on the right.

However, fortunately he found a home a lot more local to his mama’s one in Washington!

Instead, come this summer, our home will be filled by my parents! Who are retiring and relocating to Jersey City for a spell, before embarking on an around the world trip, beginning with an overnight trek along the Siberian Railroad.

I'm the only one who has parents that treat dinner at Taco Bell a delicacy. Funny is that I feel the same way. Rarely do I go out, and when I do, I enjoy a good vegan taco at Taco Bell.

Thank you Mary. It is so encouraging to hear that as not everyone appreciates the beauty in simplicity.
And the animals? We are truly blessed.

Oh I know! He was almost ours, but we are happy he now has a home closer to his original owner.
